ᴇNᴀBʟS at the University of Hohenheim Open Day: Hands-on encounters with local biodiversity and exchange about NBS

At the University of Hohenheim’s Open Day on 4 July 2026, the ᴇNᴀBʟS project team, as part of the KomBioTa network, welcomed many visitors to a stand and invited them to discover the diversity of local biodiversity through interactive and hands-on activities. We shared information about ᴇNᴀBʟS, including our NBS101 bingo, German Living Lab flyers, pencils, and keychains, and used together with our KomBioTa team exhibits, games, and guided activities to introduce insects, amphibians, bees, and other organisms found in our environment.

Visitors of all ages could examine ant collections from the Hohenheim Gardens, use identification keys with amphibian models, explore insect specimens under the microscope, and learn about the life cycle of the peacock moth. Children especially enjoyed the bee pollination game, colouring activities, and memory games, while many engaging conversations highlighted the importance of protecting biodiversity and the essential role of every species in healthy ecosystems. We discussed with visitors on the Nature-Based Solutions that individuals can contribute to in everyday life.
