Over the past year, Task Force 5 (TF5) – the EU-level task force on Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) education, which ᴇNᴀBʟS coordinates has been pulling together a growing collection of Open Educational Resources (OER) on NBS and biodiversity, contributed by task force members and partner projects from across Europe. Today, we are happy to share the result: a curated collection of 97 openly licensed resources, now published on Zenodo, our ᴇNᴀBʟS repository on OPPLA and Scientix.

The collection spans every education level, from early years and school education through vocational and higher education to adult and continuing learning, as well as non-formal settings such as NGOs, museums and citizen science initiatives. It is available in 21 languages and includes courses, MOOCs, videos, podcasts, toolkits, interactive tools and infographics from established platforms such as Scientix, Oppla, OpenLearn, Coursera, national OER repositories, and ᴇNᴀBʟS’ own project outputs.

The collection is published as an Excel table with one row per resource. For each resource, it records, for example, the type of material, target audience, educational level, learning method, prior knowledge required, learning outcomes, estimated workload, language, publication year, hosting platform and whether a registration is necessary. Column filters help to narrow the list down, and an “Explanations” sheet documents every column. Every entry links to the original resource, which remains under the licence of its source.

With dozens of resources for different age groups, formats and languages, finding the right one by scrolling through a list can be tedious. As an add-on to the table, the dataset therefore includes the TF5 Resource Finder: a single, standalone HTML file that opens offline in any browser, including on mobile devices, with no installation and no login. After a short questionnaire about education level, type of resource, learning style, available time and language, it returns a ranked shortlist of matching resources. The Finder is also integrated into the ᴇNᴀBʟS website:

The collection is best understood as a synergistic action coordinated by ᴇNᴀBʟS on behalf of Task Force 5: it brings together the contributions of many TF5 members and partners. It was compiled and curated by Felix Köhler, student assistant at the University of Hohenheim, in collaboration with the members of Task Force 5 and under the guidance of the TF5 coordination team.

The dataset, including the Excel table and the Resource Finder, is openly available on Zenodo under a CC BY-NC 4.0 licence: https://doi.org/10.5281/zenodo.23100995 (published on 5 October 2026). We hope it helps teachers, trainers and other educators across Europe to discover openly licensed teaching material on nature-based solutions and biodiversity that fits their exact needs.
