ᴇNᴀBʟS’ Lithuanian Living Lab has developed a 3 ECTS credit course entitled “Nature-Based Environment Protection Solutions”.
The course has been approved by the Vytautas Magnus University Study Committee and included as an optional course in the Bachelor-level study programme Applied Ecology (7th semester).
The Applied Ecology study programme prepares future ecology specialists with strong critical and creative thinking skills, a solid understanding of living nature and its processes, and practical knowledge in ecology and environmental protection. Students gain insights into the relationships between organisms and their environment and are encouraged to apply ecological thinking in professional practice, particularly in the context of global environmental change and biodiversity loss. Graduates may continue their studies in Master’s programmes in Life Sciences.

The preparation of applied ecology specialists directly contributes to the implementation of the EU Communication on the European Green Deal, supporting the transition towards sustainability-oriented solutions.
The course “Nature-Based Environment Protection Solutions” introduces students to the concept of Nature-Based Solutions (NBS), their ecological foundations, and application criteria. It explores how NBS can address environmental and societal challenges at local, regional, and global levels. Throughout the course, students develop skills to assess the impacts of NBS, work with scientific sources and databases, and integrate theoretical knowledge into practical tasks, case studies, and discussions.
