ᴇNᴀBʟS made its mark at Sweden’s inaugural Swedish Biodiversity Symposium which took place on 21-23 October 2025. This interdisciplinary conference brought together a wide range of experts and stakeholders to drive positive change in biodiversity.

The symposium was a key forum where science and policy intersected, fostering communication and discussion on science-based knowledge about biodiversity. This year’s theme, “Transformative change – from knowledge to action,” was a call to move beyond discussion and into tangible solutions. The event covered a broad spectrum of topics, from species conservation and land use to economic incentives and public health, providing a platform for diverse perspectives to converge and collaborate.

ᴇNᴀBʟS was represented at this exciting event by the Association for European Life Science Universities (ICA) and the University of Eastern Finland (UEF). On behalf of the first partner, Michael Jones from the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences (SLU) delivered two oral presentations.

His first presentation, “The Cornwall Beaver Project: A case study of wetland creation that transforms landscapes and institutions for biodiversity conservation,” was featured in Session 8, “Open Session: Transformative change for biodiversity and climate.” This talk used a real-world example to illustrate the power of Living Labs and their relevance to ᴇNᴀBʟS.

The second presentation, “NBS may offer something new if designed and implemented with transformation in mind,” was part of Session 21, “Nature-based solutions – is something new under the sun?“. This talk explored how Nature-Based Solutions (NBS) can be truly innovative when designed with a transformative mindset.

In addition to these talks, the University of Eastern Finland (UEF) presented a poster showcasing their work within the project, offering another way for attendees to learn about ᴇNᴀBʟS’ research and activities.
